AR 635-200

AR 635-200 (Active Duty Enlisted Administrative Separations) is the U.S. Army regulation governing administrative separation from the U.S. Army. AR 635-200 was signed by General George W. Casey, Jr. and took effect on 6 June 2005. AR 635-200 lists separations under two categories: voluntary and involuntary. Involuntary chapters must be initiated by the Soldier's command. Voluntary chapters may requested by the Soldier, but can not be forced to do so by the command.[1]

The involuntary chapters are:

5-17 Other Physical or Mental Conditions
7 Defective Enlistment/Re-enlistment or Extension
9 Alcohol or Other Drug Abuse Rehabilitation Failure
11 Entry Level Performance and Conduct
13 Separation for Unsatisfactory Performance
14-5 Conviction by Civil Court
14-12a Minor Disciplinary Infractions
14-12b A Pattern of Misconduct
14-12c Commission of a Serious Offense
15 Discharge for Homosexual Conduct
18 Failure to Meet Body Fat Standards

The voluntary chapters are:

5-16 Early Separation to Further Education
6-3 Separation Because of Dependency or Hardship
8 Separation of Enlisted Women (Pregnancy)
10 Discharge in Lieu of Trial by Court-Martial
16-2 ROTC/OCS Accession
16-4 Non Retention on Active Duty (Soldier’s denied reenlistment)
16-6 Early Separation due to disqualification for duty MOS
